SCAI Expands Team with Three New Staff Members

The Society-Centered Artificial Intelligence initiative at Duke University (SCAI) is pleased to welcome three new staff members whose expertise will help support the center’s expanding programs, operations, and engagement with the Duke community.

Blake Tedder will provide operational support for SCAI, including building organizational structures and workflows, coordinating communications, managing budgeting and accounting, and assisting with fundraising activities. Tedder comes to SCAI as a part of Duke’s Academic Project Management Core (APMC) where he also helps lead Duke’s AI Steering Committee. He has been at Duke since 2018, serving in leadership capacities with the Duke Forest Teaching and Research Laboratory and the Office of Climate and Sustainability. Read more about Blake.

Rachel Bingle will play a central role in planning and advertising SCAI events. She is part of Duke’s Research Project Management Core (RPMC) and recently managed one of the largest conferences ever hosted at Duke—the May 2024 meeting of the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP). Ben Rochford, a Ph.D. student in Sociology at Duke, will support SCAI’s administrative activities and help strengthen connections with students as the new Society-Centered AI Graduate Fellow. Rochford was also a presenter at SCAI’s Responsible AI Symposium earlier this year, bringing valuable student and scholarly perspectives to the conference. Explore Ben’s work.

With these appointments, SCAI is well-positioned to support its fast-growing portfolio of supporting research and collaborations, putting on events, and building community across campus and with external partners with interest in society-centered AI.
